A Brush With Colgate and Very Happy Smiles

This week I’ve been on an assignment for Irish Rugby Tours, my first engagement from this company. The job was to guide the men and women of Colgate University RFC from New York State. There were 52 in the group under the leadership of Head Coach, Tim, Womens Coach, Anne Marie and the head of the university Sports Department, Janet. The group was too big for one guide, so I worked alongside my good friend and respected colleague, Cameron Goodall.

Cammy giving explanations

Cammy will soon be joining the pages of my website to act as my deputy as well as to offer specialist tours on the subjects of Robert Burns and on Freemasonry.

I was assigned to be with the womens team. I know, its a tough job but someone had to do it.

Day one was a half day walking tour of the city followed by a training session with coaches from the University of Edinburgh RFC.

Day 2 was a training session and a match between Colgate and Watsonians ladies.

Day 3 was a trip to the Borders and a visit to the home of one of Scotlands most historic Rugby clubs and the home of 7- a- side Rugby, Melrose RFC.

This blog entry will grow organically when the club gets home and I start to receive feedback and pictures. I had a wonderful time with the kids and the staff, the final dinner with Anne Marie and Janet at the Kebab Mahal and the farewell drink at the Guildford Arms was delightful and Janet is already making plans to return.
