Spent a lovely day yesterday with Elizabeth and Sydney Reed. Sydney was just finishing off a semester at Edinburgh Uni before returning back to Kansas to continue her studies in Political Science and Arabic. It’s wonderful when we can tour with folks who already have a working knowledge of the city and open their eyes to new vistas and history hidden in plain sight that the majority just walk past.
After climbing Calton Hill, we took a tour of the Palace of Holyroodhouse and then a spell up the Royal Mile, stopping for lunch in The Royal Macgregor, then on over to Greyfriars, up to the Castle (where I quickly popped in and lent my stentorian tones to the Castle Carol Service – sadly closed to the public), before tripping down the Lawnmarket and into the Christmas Market for some chocolate-dipped strawberries – Yum!
